I've had many requests for a virtual field trip about Landforms and Bodies of Water, and I'm excited to share the details about this new activity! As with all of my virtual field trips, this activity includes ready-to-go content, response questions, and incredible Google Earth 360-degree views!
This virtual field trip brings geography to life by allowing students the opportunity to explore real locations using Google Earth. Instead of just viewing a few textbook images, your students will actually see real-world examples of landforms and bodies of water.
Let's be honest, learning about landforms can feel abstract when students only see them in textbooks. This virtual field trip is more than a slideshow. It is an interactive journey. This resource is designed to help students understand in a way that is visual, interactive, and memorable.
This isn't a passive activity. Instead, students are exploring and engaging with the topic. Tools like Google Earth allow students the opportunity to explore real-world examples of geography, making learning more engaging and meaningful.
From panoramic views at the summit of Mount Everest to an underwater ocean tour, your students' understanding of landforms and bodies of water deepens instantly with this virtual field trip.
This activity is ready-to-go in Google Slides with all of the content, clickable links, and response questions prepped for you. Direct links are included to specific Google Earth locations and videos. Answer keys and a grading rubric are also included. You could even leave this activity as sub plans.
If you're teaching a landforms or Earth science unit, this is the perfect way to:
introduce the topic

reinforce key concepts
review before an assessment
This activity is sure to spark curiosity, and when students are engaged, they remember more, and that's the goal.

This virtual field trip is structured. The informational text and links are meaningful and intended to encourage students to think critically as they respond to the questions throughout the virtual field trip. This is also a great way to keep students accountable as they learn and explore. All response questions are editable, so you can tailor them to your class needs.
This virtual field trip is more than just a slide show. Students get to explore, zoom in, and look around as they view different landforms and bodies of water. This activity is a great way to bring learning to life.
Teachers continually share with me that their students love virtual field trips and beg for more. I also love hearing from teachers that their assignment completion rate is much higher when they assign one of my virtual field trips. That's a huge win!
This virtual field trip can be conducted as a teacher-led activity or shared with students through Google Classroom (or your school's LMS) as an independent assignment. You will want to be sure ahead of time that your school provides access to Google Earth and YouTube.
If you’re looking for a way to make your geography lessons more engaging, meaningful, and memorable, this virtual field trip is a game changer.
